The choreographer shared with me his desire that the piece look like the folding and tumbling of a kaleidoscope. When my assistant and I watched the piece in rehearsal from a location above the dance floor we noticed that the piece also looked like a kaleidoscope from above, so we used an infrared camera to show the audience the piece from above as well as from the front.
